About the position

The Police Officer position in the Town of Mount Pleasant involves performing general duty police work to protect life and property, enforce laws, and investigate crimes. Officers will engage in various roles including patrol, traffic enforcement, school resource duties, crime prevention, and criminal investigations, ensuring community safety and fostering good relations with citizens.

Responsibilities

• Patrol designated districts to protect the community.
• Respond to specific incidents relayed by the dispatcher and conduct preliminary investigations.
• Conduct follow-up investigations and enforce town ordinances and state laws.
• Prepare detailed written incident reports, arrest and search warrants, and other required documentation.
• Testify in court as needed.
• Apprehend and maintain custody of individuals being taken to jail or court.
• Conduct searches and arrests in accordance with laws of arrest, search, and seizure.
• Assist at special events as needed and work in partnership with citizens to enhance community wellness.
• Respond to traffic-related incidents and complaints, issue citations, and direct traffic flow when required.
• Investigate accidents, render first aid, and assist motorists with disabled vehicles.
• Patrol school premises, enforce laws, and foster good public relations with students and staff.
• Plan and coordinate community relations programs and develop crime prevention initiatives.
• Conduct investigations of crimes, process evidence, and interview involved parties.
• Identify and collect evidence from crime scenes, maintaining the integrity of evidence.

Requirements

• Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and military/law enforcement experience.
• Completion of South Carolina Criminal Justice Training Academy.
• Must be a US Citizen and at least 21 years of age.
• Valid South Carolina driver's license.
