About the position

The Police Officer at Houston Christian University is responsible for enforcing laws and ensuring the safety and security of the university community, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role involves maintaining a professional demeanor while patrolling the campus, responding to incidents, and investigating criminal activities. The officer must exercise independent judgment and adhere to institutional policies while providing assistance and protection to the university community.

Responsibilities

• Enforce laws and institutional rules to ensure safety and security on campus.
• Provide protection and assistance to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
• Remain vigilant to threats and take appropriate action to prevent or address them.
• Conduct uniform patrols of the campus by vehicle and on foot.
• Investigate reports of criminal activity and write detailed police reports.
• Maintain security of university property by managing access to buildings and identifying hazards.
• Respond to security alarms and other emergency situations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Texas peace officer license issued by TCOLE.
• Valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record.
• Firearm qualified or able to qualify.
• Ability to pass medical, psychological, drug screening, and background checks.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and law enforcement procedures.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse communities.
• Physical ability to effect an arrest and perform various physical tasks.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience as a police officer, especially retired officers are preferred.
