About the position

The Police Officer position at the Oklahoma VA Medical Center involves performing a full range of police duties, including law enforcement, physical security operations, and crime prevention activities. The officer will be responsible for protecting the civil rights of individuals on VA property, conducting patrols, responding to emergencies, and maintaining order. This role requires adherence to strict regulations and procedures, as well as coordination with local courts and law enforcement agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Protect civil rights of individuals on VA controlled property.
  • Prevent, detect, and investigate crimes.
  • Patrol assigned areas on foot or by motor vehicle.
  • Subdue individuals causing disturbances or threats.
  • Follow rules and procedures concerning search and seizure.
  • Obtain search and arrest warrants.
  • Arrest violators of the law.
  • Provide basic first aid and CPR before emergency personnel arrive.
  • Prepare reports of activities and events during shifts.
  • Perform traffic control and assist citizens in emergencies.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-5 level in Federal service.
  • Experience must include maintaining order, responding to emergencies, and preparing reports.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted state driver's license.
  • Must be able to carry agency-approved firearms and maintain qualification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in law enforcement or military service is preferred.
