About the position

The Police Officer position with the City of Crystal, MN, is a full-time role responsible for the protection of life and property, crime prevention, law enforcement, and providing general public service. Officers work under the supervision of designated police supervisors and are tasked with patrolling assigned areas, enforcing laws, investigating criminal offenses, and responding to emergency situations. The role requires a commitment to community policing and involves various duties including traffic law enforcement, emergency response, and public education.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned areas by motor vehicle, bicycle, or foot.
  • Enforce traffic laws and issue citations for violations.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations of criminal offenses and accidents.
  • Render first aid and respond to emergency situations.
  • Conduct community policing programs and crime prevention education.
  • Prepare and submit reports and testify in court as needed.
  • Handle animal control issues in the absence of the animal control officer.
  • Perform security checks in parks and enforce park ordinances.
  • Assist residents with vehicle and home lockouts.

Requirements

  • Eligible for licensure under the MN P.O.S.T. selection standards by time of appointment.
  • Possess a valid Driver's License.
  • Pass a job-related physical examination and physical agility test.
  • Willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, or related field is desirable.
  • First Responder certified.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and Federal laws.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual; able to fluently speak another language(s).
  • Experience working with diverse communities.
  • Formal training in traffic and pedestrian control.
  • Experience in leadership and teaching.
