About the position

The Sr. Police Officer II at UPMC Horizon-Greenville Hospital is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This role involves enforcing UPMC rules and regulations, patrolling hospital grounds, investigating incidents, and providing customer service. The officer will also oversee shift operations, lead daily activities, and respond to emergencies, ensuring a secure atmosphere within the healthcare facility.

Responsibilities

  • Handle evidence control for UPMC initiated criminal investigations.
  • Respond to acts of extreme violence at UPMC properties that may require deadly force deployment.
  • Support various types of investigations with system-wide implications.
  • Carry, handle, and deploy a firearm as required.
  • Issue PA state citations for criminal and traffic offenses using law enforcement applications.
  • Investigate unusual incidents reported by staff, visitors, and patients.
  • Perform as a Security Officer when necessary.
  • Escalate problems and concerns to management as needed.
  • Transport individuals subjected to criminal arrest for prosecution.
  • Serve legal documents such as arrest warrants and subpoenas.
  • Function as a shift supervisor to oversee operations and provide daily instruction to staff.
  • Provide support at various UPMC facilities, requiring knowledge of site-specific policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of prior law enforcement experience with annual firearm training and qualification, or Act 120 trained with one year of law enforcement or security experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and diffuse potential conflicts.
  • Psychological fitness to handle stress and dangerous situations.
  • Physical fitness to respond to crisis interventions and medical emergencies.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with stress and potentially dangerous situations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Act 120 or equivalent training preferred.
