About the position

The Police Officer position at the University Police Department in Joplin, MO, is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and visitors on campus. Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas on foot, bicycle, or in patrol car to prevent and deter crime.
• Observe and report suspicious persons and hazardous conditions.
• Check buildings and property for security, locking entry points as scheduled.
• Respond to emergency alarms and dispatched calls, providing necessary assistance.
• Assist in parking patrol activities, issuing citations and directing traffic.
• Conduct preliminary investigations, collect evidence, and file reports as required.
• May arrest individuals and process them according to legal requirements.
• Provide escort services and assist with special events on campus.
• Render first aid as needed and take incident reports.
• Assist federal, state, and local law enforcement authorities as requested.

Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Successful completion of the Missouri 600-hour police academy required for hiring as a commissioned officer.
• Advanced levels of education preferred.
• Missouri POST certification may be required depending on staffing levels.
• Valid driver's license and safe driving record required.
