About the position

The Entry Police Officer position at the North Las Vegas Police Department is a vital role within the community, aimed at preserving public peace and safety. As an essential member of our team, you will be responsible for enforcing laws, protecting life, and preventing crime under the direct supervision of the chain of command. This position requires a commitment to serve the community and uphold the values of accountability, communication, and teamwork. The role supports an operation that is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, necessitating flexibility in working hours, including the ability to work any shift (days, swings, or graveyard) and any day of the week, including weekends and holidays. The current schedule consists of 10-hour shifts divided into two squads, with days off being either Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, or Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Candidates must successfully complete an 18-month probation period, which includes six months in the Police Academy and six months in the Field Training Program. During this time, employees will be evaluated daily and are required to learn, memorize, and apply various materials, including self-study. The starting hourly pay for this position is $28.86, with no exceptions for starting at a higher step. The selection process includes a comprehensive evaluation of qualifications, physical fitness testing, and an extensive background check, ensuring that only the most qualified candidates are chosen for this critical role.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of filing.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED at the time of filing.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen at the time of filing.
  • Ability to obtain a Nevada P.O.S.T. Police Officer Certification within the established state time frame.
  • Must possess a valid and current state driver's license at the time of application.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in law enforcement or related fields is preferred.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Previous community service or volunteer work experience.
