About the position

The Office of the Governor is seeking a Policy Data Analyst (Research Specialist I) to join the Budget and Policy Division. This role is essential in supporting the Governor's statewide agenda through routine budget, policy, and program research, analysis, and writing. The analyst will engage in a variety of policy issues, particularly focusing on public education, and will be responsible for performing comprehensive analyses of state agency budgets, proposed budget revisions, and other complex fiscal and policy matters. The position requires a commitment to the Governor's philosophy and involves assisting Governor's Advisors in program planning, development, and implementation. In this role, the analyst will evaluate agency operations and business issues, drafting timely reports of findings and recommendations. The analyst will also prepare administrative reports, studies, and specialized research projects, while actively contributing to the development and advancement of the Governor's policy priorities. This includes coordination with the Governor's executive staff, press office, appointments staff, legislative staff, and state agencies, as well as engaging with community and professional groups through constituent and stakeholder meetings. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in research and data analysis related to policy development, with a focus on both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis. Responsibilities

  • Perform routine budget, policy, and program research, analyses, and writing to support the Governor's statewide agenda.
  • Work on a variety of policy issues with a focus on public education.
  • Assist Governor's Advisors in researching, evaluating, and preparing comprehensive analyses of state agency budgets and proposed budget revisions.
  • Draft timely and factual reports of findings and recommendations regarding agency operations and business issues.
  • Prepare administrative reports, studies, and specialized research projects.
  • Engage community and professional groups through constituent and stakeholder meetings.
  • Contribute to the development and advancement of the Governor's policy priorities in coordination with various staff and agencies.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school; and two (2) years of professional experience in program evaluation, research, and the collection and analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in economics, business administration, political science, government, data analytics, finance, accounting, or a related degree is preferred.
  • At least one (1) year experience working in the legislative process, and/or conducting research and policy analysis.
