About the position

SRI International's Center for Innovation Strategy and Policy (CISP) is dedicated to helping organizations, regions, and countries achieve long-term economic and social impact through effective investments in science, technology, and innovation. Located in Arlington, VA, the Center is staffed with experienced professionals who conduct research, analysis, program evaluation, and strategic planning for both private and public sector clients globally. The focus areas include science and technology program development, policy development related to science and technology, innovation ecosystem assessment, innovation strategy and training, complex program evaluation, technology-based economic and workforce development, and advanced analytics in R&D analysis. We are seeking an early- or mid-career Policy Research Analyst to join our team and work on a hybrid schedule from our Arlington, VA office. The Research Analyst will play a crucial role in contributing to science, technology, and innovation policy research, analysis, strategic planning, and evaluations. This position involves delivering innovative solutions for a diverse range of clients. The Research Analyst will execute project tasks such as analyzing data, conducting literature reviews, synthesizing information, interviewing stakeholders, and writing reports and other documents across multiple simultaneous projects. The role requires managing time and project resources independently while supporting project leaders in envisioning, coordinating, and evaluating initiatives and policies related to science, technology, and innovation. The successful candidate will communicate the results of analyses clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to team members and clients as needed. They will produce high-quality reports and presentations, collaborate well in small teams, and apply various analytic methods to a diverse range of qualitative and quantitative data. Additionally, the Research Analyst will perform administrative duties such as scheduling and notetaking, and may occasionally travel domestically and internationally when conditions permit.

Responsibilities

  • Execute project tasks such as analyzing data, conducting literature reviews, synthesizing information, interviewing stakeholders, and writing reports and other documents across multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Support project leaders or other senior staff in envisioning, coordinating, and evaluating initiatives and policies related to science, technology, and innovation.
  • Help project leaders develop appropriate methods to solve complex science, technology, and innovation policy problems.
  • Communicate the results of analyses clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to team members and clients as needed.
  • Produce well-written, high-quality reports and presentations.
  • Collaborate effectively in small teams.
  • Apply a variety of analytic methods to a diverse range of qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Perform administrative duties such as scheduling and notetaking.
  • Occasionally travel domestically and internationally when conditions permit.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required due to government contract requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred, in a STEM field, public policy, or other policy-oriented field in the social sciences.
  • 1-5 years of work experience related to science, technology, and innovation in domains such as science and innovation policy, technology strategy, technology transfer and commercialization, program evaluation, and data analysis.
  • Experience with R/Python programming or econometrics strongly preferred, but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Research experience involving both qualitative and quantitative methods, including policy review, stakeholder interviews, case studies, feasibility studies, and statistical analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to different roles based on project needs and work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Effective time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with team members and clients.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in policy review and stakeholder interviews.
  • Familiarity with case studies and feasibility studies.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques.
