About the position

The Policy Research Associate at the Duke Margolis Institute for Health plays a crucial role in managing complex research and policy projects focused on health care finance. This position requires significant subject matter expertise and involves high-level project management, research, analysis, and collaboration with various stakeholders. The associate will produce high-quality written materials, engage with policymakers, and oversee project deliverables while working in a hybrid environment between Washington DC and Durham NC.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day execution of complex research and policy projects.
  • Research and analyze health finance and investment challenges.
  • Conduct quantitative financial analyses to support project goals.
  • Draft written products including summary documents, blog posts, peer-reviewed publications, and policy briefs.
  • Engage effectively with policymakers and high-level external stakeholders.
  • Manage the agenda, content, and speakers for Institute events and convenings.
  • Outline and conceptualize the content and structure of project deliverables.
  • Review and provide editorial comments for project materials drafted by other team members.
  • Monitor and analyze developments in specialized content areas.
  • Coordinate and oversee internal project team activities to ensure research activities and deliverables are completed in accordance with the project plan.
  • Collaborate with Institute executive leadership and other senior staff to develop and implement work plans and timelines.
  • Mentor junior employees in management of work activities and development of content expertise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., policy, public health, economics) is required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of six years of progressive experience in policy/research/data analysis at various governmental levels or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent research and writing skills.
  • Proven competence in leading research projects.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in policy research and/or business analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Data analysis capabilities preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and relevant research and analytic software.
  • Training or experience in business or finance, private investment, health policy, public policy, or data science.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $89,850 to $145,200 annually.
