About the position

The Polysomnographic Technician at UChicago Medicine plays a crucial role in the Sleep Lab Department, responsible for preparing patients, conducting polysomnography tests, and interpreting results to assist physicians in diagnosing sleep disorders. This part-time position requires a blend of technical skills and patient interaction, ensuring high-quality care and accurate data collection.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine polysomnograms
  • Conduct CPAP/BiPAP titrations
  • Explain procedures and prepare patients for tests
  • Obtain relevant patient information and history
  • Assist in obtaining special montage electroencephalographic recordings
  • Interpret recordings to inform physicians of critical problems
  • Write informal preliminary reports for physician use
  • Use video-monitoring equipment for quality recordings
  • Calibrate equipment for standard recordings
  • Maintain equipment cleanliness and functionality
  • Score sleep records as required
  • Manage paperwork related to billing, logging, and patient files
  • Ensure quality of recordings and patient satisfaction
  • Perform other duties as requested by senior management

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School diploma
  • Completion of preparation modules for a registration certificate in Polysomnographic Technology (RPSGT or RST)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist qualification
  • Knowledge of polysomnography and sleep disorders
  • Experience with patient education regarding CPAP use and compliance
  • Troubleshooting equipment experience

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduate from an accredited 2-year program in Electroneuro diagnostics
  • Minimum of four years' experience in the field of sleep disorders
