About the position

The Polysomnographic Tech II position at the University of Mississippi Medical Center involves conducting polysomnographic exams to evaluate and treat sleep disorders. The role includes providing diagnostic and therapeutic services, scoring sleep studies, and maintaining equipment. The technician will also educate patients about the procedures and ensure compliance with safety and infection control standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of polysomnographic exams on sleeping patients to detect common sleep disorders.
  • Follow procedural protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data.
  • Document procedures and data recorded from exams to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
  • Collect, analyze, and integrate patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs and determine final testing parameters.
  • Explain pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to educate the patient.
  • Prepare and calibrate equipment used for testing to ensure proper functioning and make adjustments if necessary.
  • Score sleep/wake stages and clinical events and generate applicable reports when appropriate.
  • Perform equipment care and maintenance and comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.

Requirements

  • Valid Registered Sleep Technologist certification (RPSGT or RST).
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Knowledge about sleep, sleep disorders, and testing procedures.
  • Skilled in recognizing and providing age-specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of patients.
  • Skill in the preparation and calibration of equipment used for testing.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to gather and analyze patient information.
  • Ability to follow procedural protocols.
  • Ability to document routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events.
