Responsibilities

• Perform sleep study examinations professionally and accurately.
• Apply electrodes on predetermined positions on the patient's head and perform impedance tests.
• Calibrate and adjust sleep instruments before and after exams.
• Select appropriate electrode combinations for each case and recognize tracing problems.
• Obtain standard recordings and take necessary steps to resolve issues.
• Score sleep studies, including respirations and EMG scoring.
• Abstract relevant information from patient records and document comments during studies.
• Perform laboratory exams both bedside and in the lab.
• Clean workstations and prepare for subsequent exams after each study.
• Maintain appropriate records and manage daily filing tasks.
• Complete and forward charge slips for billing purposes.
• Keep the Sleep Lab Director and Medical Director informed of any issues.
• Conduct follow-up phone calls to patients.

Requirements

• Successful completion of a polysomnography program of at least one year from a state licensed or nationally accredited facility.
• Previous experience in polysomnography is preferred.
• Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist is preferred, to be obtained within 12 months of hire.
• Demonstrated competency in polysomnographic procedures and record scoring.
• Ability to work independently, especially when alone with patients.
