About the position
The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) position focuses on providing care for patients undergoing sleep studies and treatment for sleep disorders. The role involves preparing equipment, conducting tests, interpreting results, and educating patients about their conditions and available resources. This position requires a high level of quality service in various settings, including emergency and critical care environments.
Responsibilities
- Prepares for the arrival of the patient by setting up and preparing the equipment for the ordered test.
- Interviews patient/parent to determine sleep disorder issues and to explain testing procedures.
- Prepares, calibrates, troubleshoots, and maintains equipment required for testing.
- Determines and reports needed repairs and replacements.
- Scores, interprets and reports results of sleep studies.
- Educates patients about test results, sleep disorders, community support groups, and available resources.
- Performs testing and any additional testing required for sleep disorder that is noted.
Requirements
- Accredited Program in Sleep Technology (Required)
- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) certification from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT)
- One (1) year experience preferred
- Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to a certificate or associate degree with an emphasis in sleep technology
- Graduate of an accredited registered/professional respiratory therapy program or equivalent experience and documented proficiency for all competencies required of a sleep technician.
Nice-to-haves
- Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) certification
- Certified Polysomnographic Technologist (CPSGT) certification
- Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS) certification
- National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) credential preferred.
