About the position

The Polysomnography Technologist 1 is responsible for monitoring patients' sleep to diagnose sleep-related disorders and performing therapeutic polysomnographic procedures. This role involves communicating with patients and their families about sleep disorders and treatments, as well as ensuring the proper functioning of equipment used in sleep studies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform polysomnographic studies in a clinical setting, including oxygen and nasal continuous positive airway pressure titrations.
  • Score studies and formulate reports for physician interpretation.
  • Document all pertinent patient events according to department policy.
  • Communicate instructions, results, and relative information to patients, physicians, and family members.
  • Calibrate and perform routine and troubleshooting maintenance on equipment, contacting manufacturers for repairs as needed.
  • Notify proper personnel for equipment problems.
  • Clean all equipment ensuring infection control.
  • Provide expertise for difficult-to-fit nasal CPAP patients.
  • Train respiratory personnel on proper mask fit techniques.
  • Consult with sleep physicians regarding testing results and toleration to therapies.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of policies and procedures.
  • Participate in community service through sleep apnea screening.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
  • Less than 1 Year of Experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Nice-to-haves

  • General knowledge of Polysomnographic Care modalities, therapies, equipment, and medications.
  • Ability to read, write and follow flow chart protocols as appropriate.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot audio and video equipment.
  • General computer skills, including data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, handheld scanning, and email.
