About the position

The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach (Part-time) at Fayetteville Technical Community College plays a crucial role in supporting the Head Men's Basketball Coach in the overall management and operation of the Men's Basketball program. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about basketball and have a strong commitment to the academic and athletic success of student-athletes. The Assistant Coach will work closely with the Head Coach to plan, coordinate, and evaluate all aspects of the basketball program, ensuring that it adheres to the standards set by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the college's policies. In this role, the Assistant Coach will be responsible for advising student-athletes on intercollegiate athletic rules and regulations, as well as college policies, ensuring compliance with these regulations. The Assistant Coach will also assist in the recruitment of student-athletes, guiding them through the signing process and providing support in their academic and athletic endeavors. This includes planning and directing skill development sessions for student-athletes, ensuring that safety measures are observed during all team activities, and coordinating all activities in preparation for scheduled competitions. The Assistant Coach is expected to attend all team practices and home and away contests, actively monitoring the academic performance of student-athletes in collaboration with the Head Coach and the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. This position also involves working with alumni, college administration, and community groups to garner support for the basketball program. Additional responsibilities may be assigned to further advance the college's mission and the success of its students.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Men's Basketball Coach in planning and managing the Men's Basketball program.
  • Advise student-athletes and staff on intercollegiate athletic rules and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Recruit, advise, and sign student-athletes for team participation.
  • Inform student-athletes about academic matters and their educational progress.
  • Plan and direct athletic skill development for student-athletes.
  • Ensure safety measures are observed during team activities.
  • Work within budgetary guidelines established by the College.
  • Coordinate activities in preparation for scheduled competitions.
  • Attend all team practices and home and away contests.
  • Monitor student-athlete academic performance and implement support measures.
  • Assist in resolving cases of student-athlete regulation violations.
  • Collaborate with Athletic Staff, alumni, and community groups to seek support for the team.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to advance the college and student success.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and playing/coaching experience at the secondary, post-secondary, or collegiate level, or equivalent experience.
  • A valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • A valid CDL, class B, with a P endorsement.
