About the position
The Senior Underground Mine Engineer at Barrick Gold Corporation is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating engineering work for major projects at the Portal Mines operation. This role involves conducting surveys, interpreting results, and preparing recommendations while ensuring a safe work environment and fostering collaboration across departments.
Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
- Plan and conduct surveys, tests, or investigations, interpret results, and prepare recommendations, summaries, schedules, and cost estimates.
- Meet with representatives of other departments to coordinate planning and scheduling activities.
- Perform work which involves conventional engineering practice but includes a variety of complex features, such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials, and difficult coordination requirements.
- Develop and evaluate plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities, devising new approaches to problems encountered.
- Creation of long range mine plans inclusive of CAPEX, OPEX estimates.
- Preparation of Reserve and Resource estimates for the site.
- Create and analyze metrics to determine operational efficiencies and growth prospects.
- Create an environment of trust and respect with other departments at the operation.
- Manage and be accountable for the workload allocation and generated products from the site engineering and survey team.
Requirements
- B.S. degree in Engineering
- 5 years of experience in Underground Mine Planning
- Ventilation experience
- Minimum 3 years of mine design and scheduling
- Technical communication and presentation skills
- Expert knowledge in engineering and design
- Mining or heavy mineral industry experience

- Ability to operate efficiently in MS Office applications
- Experience with Deswik software suite
- Experience with VentSim
