About the position

The Portfolio Analyst (PA) in Sponsor Finance plays a crucial role in the credit risk management of Live Oak Bank. This position involves collecting and analyzing financial data, conducting financial spread analysis, and ensuring compliance with loan documentation. The PA supports senior team members by preparing diligence materials and providing insights on portfolio performance, thereby contributing to the bank's mission of empowering small business owners.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze financial information from assigned accounts throughout the relationship.
  • Review and spread financial statements to ensure compliance with loan conditions.
  • Onboard new clients and manage operational inquiries from stakeholders.
  • Assist analysts with underwriting loan modifications, amendments, and renewals.
  • Engage with deal and credit teams to address underperforming client accounts.
  • Identify underperformance and root causes that may lead to defaults.
  • Work with internal partners to respond to underperformance and protect the bank's interests.
  • Facilitate loan advance requests in collaboration with clients and internal departments.
  • Monitor and process Revolver advances in a timely manner according to loan documents.
  • Prepare diligence and presentation materials for loan reviews.
  • Complete various projects as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience of two or more years in a bank commercial lending department.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High degree of financial statement analytical skills.
  • Experience in writing/reviewing loan presentations that identify key risks and mitigants.
  • Strong customer service orientation with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of lending policies and procedures, including loan agreements and collateral procedures.
  • Ability to make timely sound recommendations while ensuring compliance with bank policies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated experience utilizing credit software to capture credit applications.
  • Above-average PC skills including MS Office Applications (Word, Excel).
  • Collaborative and highly coachable attitude.
