About the position

We are currently recruiting for a Portfolio Analytics Insurance Leader in Hartford, CT, New York City (midtown), or Atlanta, GA. This is a full-time position with a hybrid work model, requiring in-office attendance two days a week. The Portfolio Analytics Leader will spearhead a dynamic team dedicated to propelling the business forward through data-driven insights. This role is pivotal and fast-paced within the US underwriting team, tasked with developing, enhancing, and maintaining essential business intelligence, as well as advancing predictive and descriptive analytics capabilities. The position offers a competitive salary range of $160,000 to $190,000, along with a bonus and comprehensive benefits package. In this role, you will apply your fundamental technical skills and innovative thought processes to tackle complex business challenges and uncover new opportunities. You will provide both ad hoc analysis and sophisticated predictive and prescriptive models to foster a data-centric culture through your team. Articulating the business value of analytical solutions to key stakeholders is crucial, as is devising innovative approaches and conveying your vision in a clear and impactful manner. You will leverage data and analytics to drive decision-making and commit to the continuous enhancement of both processes and results. Additionally, you will partner with senior leadership to comprehend the business strategy and aid in steering and bolstering strategic initiatives by offering persuasive recommendations based on sophisticated analytics and data science. A significant part of your responsibilities will include seamlessly transitioning the underwriting organization from its existing business intelligence framework to PowerBI tools as the business shifts onto Databricks. You will also initiate the adoption of Dataiku and advance underwriting models by incorporating third-party data to evaluate risk quality and determine pricing sufficiency for potential underwriting actions.

Requirements

  • A degree in STEM or a closely related discipline.
  • 7-10 years of experience in insurance analytics, with a preference for Commercial insurance.
  • Proficient in using complex datasets for creating analytical processes (model design, development, and deployment).
  • Experienced in mentoring to enhance skills.
  • Proven leadership, communication, influence, and team-building abilities.
  • Extensive experience with analytical tools, programming languages, and databases (e.g., R, Python, SQL).
  • Capable of translating models into a production-ready state for non-technical users (e.g., using Shiny for R).
  • Expertise in developing and deploying robust business intelligence tools for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Skilled in creating predictive and prescriptive analyses (predictive modeling, machine learning, data mining) to extract vital business insights.
