About the position

Silvercrest Asset Management Group is a registered investment advisor that provides asset management and family office services to families and select institutional investors. Silvercrest currently advises on $35 billion for a clientele comprised primarily of families, endowments, foundations and other institutional investors. This role is designed for a highly motivated individual with a passion for investment management and a desire to grow within the financial services industry. The Richmond, VA based team operates in a fast-paced environment with strong growth and presents a great opportunity to learn from experienced investors. The Portfolio Associate will work closely with Portfolio Managers and Client Associates to manage client portfolios, conduct investment research, and deliver exceptional service to clients. The successful candidate will have relevant investment management experience. The individual should be a highly organized, detail-oriented person with good follow-up and communication skills. They should be able to multi-task effectively, be eager to learn and improve processes, have a good work ethic, and should be professional and personable in relating to clients and co-workers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing client investment portfolios, ensuring alignment with clients' investment objectives.
  • Monitor performance and asset allocation for client portfolios and recommend adjustments based on market conditions, client needs, and/or investment strategy research.
  • Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of existing underlying investment strategies and conduct research on potential new investment opportunities, including equities, fixed income, mutual funds, and alternative investments.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic financial planning concepts in tax, estate, insurance, retirement and investment realms.
  • Prepare client portfolio performance reporting for client review meetings; materials should be reviewed for accuracy and completeness prior to delivery to the portfolio managers.
  • Participate in portfolio review meeting with clients.
  • Will have the opportunity to be the lead portfolio manager on client relationships over time as well as contribute to new business development efforts.
  • Assist with day-to-day client requests including cash and securities transfers, account information, and other ad-hoc requests.
  • Organize and lead efforts for the team to complete follow-up requests from client portfolio review meetings in a timely manner.
  • Act as a liaison to Silvercrest's family office group to assist with client cash flow planning, tax payments, gifting, and other miscellaneous needs as they arise.
  • Communicate with team and others in the firm on an ongoing basis concerning all client related matters.
  • Work closely with other team members, including portfolio managers, client associates, operations staff, and compliance teams, to ensure smooth portfolio management processes.
  • Execute trades efficiently and accurately with direction from portfolio managers.
  • Work closely with custodians and internal operations to ensure accuracy of account information, including security set-up, cost basis, and holdings data.
  • Review accounts as needed, for adequate cash balances to cover liquidity needs such as tax payments, income distributions, private equity capital calls, and management fees.
  • Carry out other reconciliation, maintenance, and administrative ad-hoc functions as needed.
  • Interface with custodians, accountants and attorneys.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field; Progress toward or completion of CFA, CFP, MBA or other relevant certifications or degrees (preferred)
  • A minimum of 4 years' experience with a financial advisory firm (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of investment principles, asset allocation, and portfolio construction.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, to clients and the internal team.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently as needed.
  • Strong MS Office skills, particularly Excel, Powerpoint, and Word.
  • Familiarity with financial planning concepts.

  • Base salary range of approximately $80,000+ USD
