About the position

The Portfolio Management Underwriter III is responsible for underwriting and analyzing new and renewed lines of credit and loans of various types and complexities in accordance with Bank and Department policies and procedures. This role involves active participation in the concept memo review process, oversight of portfolio credit quality, and management of complex credits and increase requests.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and manage the team's most complex credits and increase requests.
  • Coordinate and complete renewals for the team's credits.
  • Provide feedback for concept memo meetings as appropriate.
  • Write up preflights in coordination with Relationship Managers.
  • Draft prospect/borrower information requests with Relationship Managers.
  • Order third-party reports as necessary, including credit reports and appraisals.
  • Review third-party reports as necessary.
  • Draft new and renewal credit requests in coordination with Relationship Manager or Portfolio Manager.
  • Assist Portfolio Manager Underwriter with deal structures as necessary.
  • Draft CRE addendum and review agreements including purchase and sale agreements.
  • Shepherd credit quest underwriting through various levels of recommendation and approval.
  • Review loan documents prior to signing as needed.
  • Assist in obtaining insurance information as needed.
  • Primary role in closing signing meetings (internal and external).
  • Coordinate collection of financials and required tickler items from borrowers.
  • Perform and/or assign site visits for completion.
  • Coordinate covenant testing and tickler follow-up.
  • Perform covenant tests on the most complex credits as necessary.
  • Review and/or draft waivers or forbearance requests and letters prior to issuance.
  • Draft watch list credit comments for presentation.
  • Draft Problem Loan Reports and handle adverse rated credits remaining on line.
  • Assist with post-closing work (tickler setup, merging credit quest records) as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business related field or equivalent education preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in commercial credit underwriting or related experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret a variety of financial statements required.
  • Ability to spread financial statements using Credit Quest.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, spelling, grammatical and proofreading abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Must possess a positive attitude, good judgment, and the ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with underwriting syndicated and participated loans.
  • Familiarity with Small Business Administration loans and nonprofit facilities.
