About the position

Amegy Bank is seeking a Portfolio Manager to join the International Banking team in Houston, TX. This position is part of a full-service lending group that specializes in providing financing solutions for exporters, importers, U.S. subsidiaries of foreign parent companies, and international corporates. The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for managing all steps of the credit approval process, which includes preparing credit memos that analyze financial statements, market risks, guarantors, and loan structures to determine the creditworthiness of companies. This role requires strict adherence to credit policies, guidelines, procedures, and regulatory requirements. In addition to credit analysis, the Portfolio Manager will manage an assigned portfolio, focusing on delinquency, matured loans, collateral, and financial statement monitoring. This includes ensuring compliance with borrowing bases and covenants, conducting risk grading, and fulfilling monthly monitoring requirements. The role involves regular interaction with customers, peers, credit officers, and management, necessitating a strong understanding of financial and market trends that may impact the portfolio. The Portfolio Manager will also be tasked with the early identification and proactive management of deteriorating credits and other problem situations, along with other duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field, along with a minimum of 2 years of commercial loan underwriting and credit experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be acceptable. Candidates should have a solid understanding of various types of loans, credit analysis, and financial statement analysis, as well as risk analysis and credit monitoring. Formal credit training is preferred, and knowledge of banking products, services, policies, procedures, and regulations is essential. Strong customer service, relationship management, organizational, analytical, reasoning, and creative problem-solving skills are required, along with the ability to meet deadlines and strong verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in software applications, including word processing and spreadsheets, is also necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all steps of the credit approval process.
  • Prepare credit memos analyzing financial statements, market risks, guarantors, and loan structures.
  • Determine the creditworthiness of companies while adhering to credit policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage assigned portfolio for delinquency, matured loans, collateral, and financial statement monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with borrowing bases and covenants, conduct risk grading, and fulfill monthly monitoring requirements.
  • Interact with customers, peers, credit officers, and management.
  • Stay informed of financial and market trends affecting the portfolio and analyze their impact.
  • Provide early identification and proactive management of deteriorating credits and other problem situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field.
  • 2+ years of commercial loan underwriting and credit experience or related experience.
  • Knowledge of various types of loans and credit analysis.
  • Experience in spreading and analyzing financial statements and risk analysis.
  • Familiarity with credit monitoring and risk administration.
  • Solid credit skills in underwriting, financial modeling, and valuations.
  • Strong adherence to policy and procedures.
  • Excellent customer service and relationship management skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, reasoning, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in software applications including word processing and spreadsheets.
