About the position

The Portfolio Manager I position at Independent Financial is a full-time role based in McKinney, TX, where the primary responsibilities revolve around managing a portfolio of customer accounts. The Portfolio Manager is tasked with continuously monitoring and assessing the credit profiles of customers within their assigned portfolio. This involves providing exceptional service to help retain customer relationships and addressing routine issues such as overdrafts, wires, and new account openings. The role also requires ensuring that renewals, extensions, and annual reviews are completed in a timely manner, while actively seeking ways to enhance customer profitability through cross-selling opportunities. Additionally, the Portfolio Manager is expected to replace runoff and amortization in the portfolio by deepening sales within the existing book of business and continuously seeking referral opportunities from current customers and centers of influence. In terms of responsibilities, the Portfolio Manager will manage basic or routine relationships involving credits, deposits, and fee-based products/services that require less complex analysis. They will perform or initiate account and loan maintenance as required and act as a liaison for customer inquiries, ensuring that all information, data, and documentation for portfolio accounts are accurate. The role also involves participating in customer meetings to further relationships and expand business opportunities. From a credit management perspective, the Portfolio Manager will determine borrower credit-worthiness for new and renewing loan requests in accordance with credit policy and manage the request through the appropriate underwriting and closing processes. They will ensure that loan transactions are properly documented and conduct continuous reviews and administration of loans while managing enterprise risk for products and services, including depository services and Treasury Management products. Reporting credit risk issues in a timely manner is also a critical aspect of this role. In terms of business development, the Portfolio Manager will proactively review existing relationships for product penetration and identify opportunities for loans, deposits, fees, and non-credit products and services. They will issue proposals as appropriate and seek out referrals from existing customers and centers of influence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in commercial lending as a credit analyst, underwriting specialist, portfolio manager, or relationship manager.
  • General knowledge of financial lending regulations.
  • General knowledge of credit philosophy and policies as well as loan documentation.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
