About the position

The Portfolio Manager II for the Faith Based Division at Cass Commercial Bank is responsible for performing credit underwriting functions in accordance with bank policies. This role involves collaborating with Relationship Managers (RMs) to assess client needs, analyze financial information, and recommend appropriate loan structures. The position requires strong analytical skills, effective communication, and the ability to work independently while engaging with faith-based organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform credit underwriting functions in accordance with credit policy.
  • Partner with Relationship Managers to interview clients and gather information about their needs and capabilities.
  • Analyze financial information, growth plans, and economic trends to assess credit risk.
  • Conduct credit checks on businesses and individuals.
  • Coordinate real estate or equipment appraisals and environmental studies as required.
  • Write underwriting memos and coordinate Loan Approval Requests with the Credit Department.
  • Recommend loan structures and determine loan grades for new and existing clients.
  • Gather organizational documents and relevant personal information for loan documentation.
  • Prepare onboarding forms as needed.
  • Participate in presentations to management and the Executive Loan Committee for credit approvals.
  • Monitor existing credit relationships for compliance with loan agreements.
  • Review loan quality through statement analysis and recommend loan grade changes when necessary.
  • Create detailed records and reports of activities in the bank's CRM system.
  • Identify and manage risks related to client product and service offerings.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, or related area or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of commercial lending experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for developing relationships with clients and team members.
  • High level of analytical and collaboration skills for financial and strategic analysis.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with all organizational levels and clients.
  • Knowledge of credit analysis, financial statement analysis, credit scoring, and loan documentation.
  • Ability to work independently with moderate direction.
  • Comfortable working with faith-based communities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM systems.
  • Familiarity with the faith-based community and non-profit organizations.
