About the position

The Portfolio Manager II or III position at Truist is a critical role responsible for underwriting all credit requests, which includes both new requests and credit decisioning within assigned portfolios. The individual in this role will be accountable for recommending credit structures that align with the quality and profitability standards set by the organization, while also adhering to the risk philosophy, risk appetite, and lending strategies of Truist. A high level of client responsiveness is essential, as the position requires analyzing financial statements and navigating a variety of financial structures and credit scenarios. The Portfolio Manager will ensure that all commercial lending activities are executed in accordance with Truist's policies and procedures, and will build effective relationships with Risk Management and client managers. The position requires the individual to support the commercial lending process through underwriting, policy knowledge, credit structuring, and risk assessment in credit request packages, particularly in a moderate-sized or large homogeneous portfolio. Responsibilities include ensuring that credit packages are complete, accurate, and thoroughly documented, as well as analyzing and recommending adjustments to financial statement spreads. The Portfolio Manager will interact with clients both verbally and in writing regarding pending loan requests or portfolio management actions, and must have a comprehensive understanding of all Truist Wholesale Credit policies, procedures, and processes. The role may require specialized underwriting skills for various lending products, including Commercial and Industrial, Commercial Real Estate, and SBA lending. The work environment is hybrid, with the expectation that employees will work in the office four days a week starting October 1st, with one day remote. Candidates must be willing to work in one of the specified locations: Richmond, VA; Atlanta, GA; Orlando, FL; or Greensboro, NC. This position does not offer full remote or telecommute options, nor does it provide relocation assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite all credit requests, including new requests and credit decisioning within assigned portfolios.
  • Recommend credit structures with respect to quality and profitability within assigned geographies.
  • Ensure adherence to risk philosophy, risk appetite, and lending strategies while maintaining high client responsiveness.
  • Analyze financial statements and navigate a variety of financial structures and credit scenarios.
  • Ensure commercial lending activities comply with Truist's policies and procedures.
  • Build effective relationships with Risk Management and client managers.
  • Support the commercial lending process through underwriting, policy knowledge, credit structuring, and risk assessment.
  • Ensure credit request packages are complete, accurate, and thoroughly documented.
  • Interact with clients regarding pending loan requests or portfolio management actions.
  • Keep abreast of changing business and economic developments impacting the loan portfolio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and related training.
  • 3 years of experience in commercial lending and/or credit experience for Level II; 5+ years for Level III.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of commercial lending, underwriting, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated effective problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of financial and cost accounting principles.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or equivalent financial industry training.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in commercial lending systems.
  • RMA - Credit Risk Certification for Level III.
