About the position

The Portfolio Manager Senior - Alternative Investments at Sentry is responsible for leading the management of assigned investment portfolios, primarily focusing on alternative investments such as venture capital, private equity, real estate, and hedge funds. This role involves collaborating with the AVP-Alternative Investments to develop strategic plans, sourcing and screening investment opportunities, and monitoring portfolio performance. The position is based at the company's headquarters in Stevens Point, WI, and is not eligible for remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the AVP-Alternative Investments to develop strategic plans and direction for the portfolio(s).
  • Source, screen, and conduct diligence on alternative investment opportunities.
  • Contribute to the selection of strategies, investment types, and managers/opportunities.
  • Lead the development of sourcing, screening, diligence, and monitoring processes.
  • Monitor Sentry's alternative investment portfolios and prepare reports and analysis.
  • Meet regularly with investment managers and key industry constituents.
  • Conduct analysis and bespoke projects related to sourcing and selection of investments.
  • Create pacing/commitment plans and diligence schedules.
  • Research macroeconomic and demographic situations impacting the portfolio.
  • Engage in portfolio and macroeconomic discussions.
  • Mentor less senior team members and manage directly when assigned.
  • Create cash flow, income, and valuation projections.
  • Attend meetings and conferences to deepen understanding of investment opportunities.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 10 or more years of related work experience.
  • Chartered Alternative Investments Analyst certification (preferred).
  • Chartered Financial Analyst certification (preferred).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Alternative Investments and related markets.
  • Background in macroeconomics, financial analysis, accounting, and portfolio management theory.
  • Strong analytical, research, and judgment skills.
  • Excellent human relations and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and work under time constraints.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive for company business.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in venture capital and private equity.
  • Familiarity with hedge funds and commodities.
