At Midland States Bank, the Portfolio Manager Team Lead will provide discretionary management for the most complex trust and high net worth portfolios, ensuring alignment with clients' unique needs, governing documents, firm guidelines, and fiduciary standards. This leadership role is pivotal in the development and monitoring of the Bank's investment strategy, as well as the construction of fixed income and equity portfolios. The Team Lead will manage a team of professionals in a customer-centric culture, fostering a fast-paced environment where coaching, development, and performance management are key responsibilities. Identifying high-potential employees for advanced training and development opportunities is essential, as is effectively managing underperformers. In terms of client engagement, the Portfolio Manager Team Lead will establish investment objectives, articulate tailored investment strategies, and provide recommendations and explanations of account performance. This role involves leading the development and maintenance of client equity portfolios, conducting research, and mentoring Research Analysts. The Team Lead will effectively communicate and promote the Bank's investment philosophy to clients, prospects, and centers of influence, ensuring consistent client communication aligned with the broader investment team's views. Collaboration with Relationship Managers and Wealth Advisors is crucial for developing new business through clear communication of solutions and value propositions. Additionally, the Team Lead will serve as a subject matter expert in annuities, fixed income, equities, and various types of liquid and illiquid private assets, providing recommendations for complex portfolio solutions. This position requires maintaining a current awareness of new investment strategies and instruments through regular contact with industry professionals and personal research. The Portfolio Manager Team Lead will also develop content for investment newsletters, internal/external information pieces, and presentations in collaboration with third-party sources, while strictly adhering to compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with Bank and regulatory standards. Occasional travel for training and team meetings may be required, along with work in a Midland office to ensure collaboration and support of internal and external customers.
