About the position

The Portfolio Manager is responsible for overseeing the underwriting quality, portfolio administration, and credit quality of an assigned portfolio. This role involves collaboration with Relationship Managers, Lenders, and other stakeholders to ensure effective portfolio management and growth in fees, deposits, and revenue through financial solutions for customers.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the credit and monitoring of portfolio risks.
  • Work directly with Relationship Manager and Treasury Management to grow fees, deposits, and portfolio revenue.
  • Conduct preliminary evaluation and underwriting of loan proposals and terms sheets.
  • Contribute to the team's overall meeting and exceeding of assigned volume/production goals.
  • Enter and maintain client data into the CLX and Sales Management system.
  • Identify and recommend changes to the Bank's lending policies and procedures.
  • Manage the full cycle of loan requests process.
  • Provide financial and market analysis to prepare term sheets and proposals.
  • Request third-party appraisals and ensure compliance during the underwriting process.
  • Identify loan concerns and discuss with Lender or Relationship Manager.
  • Liaise with the Credit Department on loan submissions and facilitate approvals.
  • Coordinate information between clients and internal departments during the loan process.
  • Finalize loan closings with external closing attorneys.
  • Oversee renewals, document tickler, and covenant tracking of loans.
  • Monitor loan documentation and financial statement exception reports and follow up to resolve issues.
  • Work closely with Relationship Manager to manage maturing loans.
  • Troubleshoot and manage activity on delinquent accounts.
  • Generate and provide reports on the team's loan portfolio.
  • Participate in team sales calls and attend external business development events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a Banking environment with emphasis on credit area.
  • Prior working experience with loan underwriting is required.
  • Formal credit training is required.
  • Ability to analyze financial statements and corporate/personal tax returns.
  • Understanding of basic loan structure processes and regulations associated with lending.
  • Strong understanding of loan documentation criteria.
  • Knowledge of United's services, products, policies, and procedures is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer relations, and sales skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate being a self-starter, well-organized, and detail-oriented.
  • Strong teamwork ethics and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
