About the position

The Portfolio Manager position at CalSTRS involves managing and overseeing the total fund risk management for the organization. The role requires a high degree of independence and discretionary judgment, working closely with senior members of the Total Fund Management (TFM) team. The ideal candidate will have a strong quantitative background and extensive experience in risk management, particularly with large asset owners. This position offers a hybrid work environment, combining remote work with in-office responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee CalSTRS' total fund risk management.
• Provide leadership for the Total Fund Management (TFM) team.
• Perform complex duties requiring independence and discretionary judgment.
• Analyze information and data to present viable recommendations.
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
• Communicate ideas and facts effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Meet deadlines while managing multiple assignments.

Requirements

• Education in a strong quantitative discipline.
• Experience in total fund risk management with a large asset owner.
• Deep technical expertise in risk management.
• Market knowledge across traditional and alternative asset classes.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Ability to analyze information and data.
• Ability to communicate effectively in various formats.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Strong experience with technological needs for total fund risk management.
• Professional certification in CFA, CCIM, FRM, CIMA, or CAIA is preferred.
