About the position

Shuster Advisory Group, LLC is seeking an experienced portfolio manager who can add a fresh, unique perspective to our team. In this role, the portfolio manager will support the lifecycle of a large portfolio, leading project-level reviews, optimizing standards, identifying areas for improvement, reporting analyses, and training staff members. The portfolio manager should not only be comfortable talking with high-level business leaders about individual portfolios, but also help us define KPIs and create a roadmap for companywide operations. The position is based in Pasadena, CA, and offers an opportunity to work in a supportive and collaborative environment that values diversity and inclusion. The portfolio manager will be responsible for constructing successful investment portfolios informed by market conditions and economic trends. This includes generating investment policy statements that outline our clients' investment objectives, buying and selling securities in client accounts to maintain a specific investment strategy, and determining acceptable risk levels for clients based on various factors. Maintaining existing client relationships is crucial, as the portfolio manager will need to inform clients of market conditions, update them on investment research and economic trends, and meet with clients to discuss their portfolio performance and investment objectives. Additionally, the portfolio manager will draft market commentary, case studies, and market analysis, evaluate the performance of investment portfolios, and ensure compliance with standards provided by regulatory organizations. Staying up to date with relevant investment and trading news, as well as economic trends, is essential for success in this role. Other ad hoc duties may be assigned as needed, providing a dynamic and engaging work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Constructing successful investment portfolios informed by market conditions and economic trends.
  • Generating investment policy statements, outlining our clients' investment objectives.
  • Buying and selling securities in client accounts to maintain a specific investment strategy, or to reach an investment objective.
  • Determining acceptable risk levels for clients based on time frames, risk preferences, return expectations, and market conditions.
  • Maintaining existing client relationships, including informing clients of market conditions, updating them on investment research and economic trends.
  • Meeting with clients to discuss their portfolio performance and investment objectives.
  • Drafting market commentary, case studies, and market analysis.
  • Evaluating the performance of investment portfolios and ensuring compliance with standards provided by regulatory organizations, including conformance with investor disclosures, privacy laws, anti-money laundering requirements, and anti-fraud measures.
  • Staying up to date with relevant investment and trading news, and economic trends.
  • Other ad hoc duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, or finance.
  • Professional certification such as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or similar qualification.
  • FINRA Series 65, NASAA Series 66 and/or FINRA Series 7 licenses.
  • 5 or more years of professional portfolio management experience.
  • Detailed understanding of capital markets.
  • Exceptional analytical skills.
  • Proficient in various financial management software, such as FactSet, Morningstar Direct, Bloomberg Terminal, and BlackRock Aladdin.
  • Experience with Schwab Advisor Services, Orion, Redtail and Riskalyze a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
