About the position

The Portfolio Manager will work within the Real Estate team at CalSTRS, focusing on providing stable cash flow and generating enhanced yield through a diversified portfolio of high-quality real estate assets. This role involves investment recommendations and portfolio management expertise, requiring a high degree of independence and discretion. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in real estate investment principles and experience in managing various real estate strategies.

Responsibilities

• Provide investment recommendations and portfolio/asset management expertise for real estate investments.
• Manage and direct real estate manager/joint venture/operator agreements.
• Recommend and implement strategies related to various real estate investments including industrial, office, apartments, and retail.
• Conduct portfolio management and risk analysis.
• Underwrite individual real estate asset analysis.
• Research, analyze, and interpret information relevant to real estate investments.
• Prioritize workload and ensure deadlines are met.
• Collaborate effectively with external contacts such as consultants and investment managers.
• Present information clearly to a wide range of audiences.
• Lead a team effectively.

Requirements

• Knowledge of Real Estate Investment principles and trends.
• Strong knowledge of real estate mortgage use and debt strategies.
• Education in Finance or a closely related field.
• Experience in investment management, specifically in real estate markets.
• Experience managing and directing real estate manager/joint venture/operator agreements.
• Experience in portfolio management/risk analysis.
• Ability to research, analyze, and interpret information.
• Ability to work effectively as an individual and as part of a team.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a team effectively.
