A significant aspect of this role is to build and expand customer relationships through exceptional customer service and cross-selling activities. The individual will act as an advocate for clients within the bank, ensuring that their needs are met and that they receive the best possible service. In addition to managing a portfolio of commercial clients and loans, typically up to about $10 million, the Commercial Portfolio Manager will make regular business development calls to solicit new business and improve services for existing clients. This role also involves managing the credit process, identifying risks and mitigants for new and renewed loans, and providing customer service to existing commercial customers. The position requires the ability to analyze simple credits, attend and present loan requests at committee meetings, and oversee the routine maintenance and management of the portfolio, including financial reporting and loan reviews. The role may require occasional travel for training and team meetings, and the individual must maintain compliance with all applicable regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA). Overall, the Commercial Portfolio Manager is expected to represent the bank positively in various business and civic functions, promoting the bank's image and values in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of commercial clients and loans, typically up to about $10 million.
  • Make regular business development calls to solicit new business or improve services to existing clients.
  • Generate new business through cross-selling activities with the existing commercial client base.
  • Manage the credit process, identifying risks and mitigants on new and renewed loans.
  • Provide customer service to existing commercial customers, including research or referrals to other departments of the bank.
  • Assist assigned Relationship Managers with clients, acting as part of a team and as a proxy when needed.
  • Order appraisals, environmental documentation, or other complex documents needed for closing.
  • Analyze simple credits and present loan requests at committee meetings.
  • Review Credit Approval Forms for accuracy, compliance, and covenant items before approval.
  • Understand formation documents for various entities including corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, and trusts.
  • Oversee routine maintenance and management of the portfolio, including financial reporting and loan reviews.
  • Manage construction draws if completed by the field on a certain deal.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
  • Negotiate with clients on behalf of the bank.
  • Represent the bank in contacts with business associations, customers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Attend and participate in civic and business-related functions to promote the bank's image.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or Accounting.
  • 1-3 years of related experience in commercial lending or banking.
  • Successful completion of bank training specific to the position.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and knowledge of commercial loan requirements and regulations.
  • Understanding of all company loan systems for commercial lending.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven success in meeting or exceeding prior year's goals.
