About the position

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Investment Operations individual to contribute and lead a fast-developing, operationally focused team for key strategic clients of State Street's Middle Office Alpha Strategy business. The successful candidate will be part of State Street Global Services (SSGS), which provides asset owners and managers with essential financial tools to deliver effective investment solutions. The role is centered on investment operations, focusing on monitoring portfolio health for assigned accounts, addressing issues related to cash, settlements, valuation, reconciliations, ad-hoc processing, and reporting, as well as performing pre/post cycle reviews. Under the limited direction of senior management, the candidate will lead a team responsible for various operational functions, including strategic planning and oversight of the control framework. This position requires interaction with a multitude of colleagues within State Street, custodians, asset manager clients, prime brokers, and accounting agents. The candidate will act as a liaison between internal and external customers, advocating for the end customer and addressing urgent items with others. The role also involves guiding team members, problem-solving for escalated issues, and proactively reviewing operational controls, particularly in the reconciliation function of middle office services. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and present logs and power points, speak to systematic and one-off issues in the control environment, and manage and develop people across multiple global locations. Monitoring metrics, SLA adherence, and participating in manager meetings on these topics will be essential, along with implementing and designing process improvements to enhance operational quality and risk management controls. Utilizing data for trend analysis and leveraging it in the development of enhanced processes, procedures, and controls will also be a significant part of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team monitoring portfolio health for assigned accounts, addressing issues related to cash, settlements, valuation, reconciliations, ad-hoc processing, and reporting.
  • Perform pre/post cycle reviews and oversee diverse operational functions resulting from the control framework.
  • Interact with middle office, custody, and leadership colleagues, as well as custodians, asset manager clients, prime brokers, and accounting agents.
  • Liaise with internal and external customers, advocating for the end customer and addressing urgent items with others.
  • Guide team members procedurally and act as an escalation point for solving issues impacting reconciliation outputs and operational control framework checks.
  • Problem-solve escalated issues and proactively review operational controls, especially in the reconciliation function of middle office services.
  • Develop and present logs/power points regarding systematic and one-off issues in the control environment for customers.
  • Manage and develop people in multiple global locations, ensuring operational quality and risk management control.
  • Monitor metrics and SLA adherence, participating in manager meetings and implementing process improvements to enhance operational statistics.
  • Utilize data for trend analysis and leverage it in the development of enhanced processes, procedures, and controls.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • 5-7 years of financial services experience, with strong management skills.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and prioritization skills are essential.
  • Strong customer service acumen and significant experience managing staff is expected.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
  • Keen understanding of the investment process in Capital Markets, including Equity, Fixed Income, Alternatives, Money Markets, and other Multi Asset strategies.

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA or CFA is a plus.
  • Familiarity or direct experience with middle office services is a plus.
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends.
