About the position

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Girl Scouts of Gateway Council is a pivotal role within this independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which is chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA. The Council is dedicated to delivering Girl Scouting in Northeast/Central Florida, serving nearly 10,000 girls and 3,400 adult volunteers, supported by a team of 40 full- and part-time employees. With a budget of $3.8 million, the Council operates from its headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida, and manages two camp properties. The COO is responsible for increasing opportunities for girls and volunteers to collaborate, thereby advancing the mission of Girl Scouts across a large service area. This role requires a strategic approach to harness the skills of staff and community partners, leveraging the essential volunteer corps that deliver services to the community. The COO will transition from strategic planning to tactical execution in key areas such as membership recruitment, leadership development, outdoor programming, and property services. The principal objectives include increasing and retaining girl and adult membership, training and motivating volunteers, implementing corporate strategies to meet board-directed goals, advancing the brand and values of Girl Scouts, advocating for stakeholders, and managing business operations, including income and expenses. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a strong record of diversified cross-functional team development to achieve organizational goals, with a focus on operational excellence and community relationship cultivation.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • 10-15 years of progressively responsible managerial and executive experience in operations
  • Experience in delivering operational excellence, preferably in youth-serving nonprofits
  • Strong strategic planning and results management skills
  • Experience in community relationship cultivation
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree; advanced degree preferred
  • Experience in mission delivery and volunteer life-cycle management is a plus

  • Experience in the world of Girl Scouts or other nonprofits
