About the position

The Gilbert Unified School District is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher for the upcoming school year (FY 24/25) at Desert Ridge High. The primary purpose of this role is to develop and implement a program of study that meets the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of students, ensuring that all learners can thrive within the district's curriculum framework. As a Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and executing lesson plans that align with the curriculum goals and objectives. You will utilize effective teaching techniques and materials to foster an engaging learning environment. Regular monitoring and assessment of student progress will be essential, allowing you to provide timely feedback to students and their families. You will also be tasked with diagnosing and evaluating specific student needs, collaborating with district specialists as necessary to ensure that each student receives the support they require. Creating a positive classroom atmosphere conducive to learning is a key aspect of this role. You will establish reasonable classroom rules and procedures, promoting a fair and just environment for all students. Additionally, you will communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, maintaining a professional demeanor at all times. Your responsibilities will also include maintaining accurate records as required by law and district policy, as well as taking necessary precautions to protect students and school property. This position requires a valid Arizona Teaching Certificate and a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Experience in a specialized field related to special education is essential. Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Uses effective teaching techniques and materials to implement established curriculum goals and objectives.
  • Creates a weekly written lesson plan describing daily learning experiences.
  • Monitors and assesses student progress to provide regular feedback to students and their parents.
  • Diagnoses, instructs, and evaluates specific student needs, seeking assistance from district specialists as required.
  • Communicates aims and objectives to students in a well-planned, organized manner using clear language.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student behavior.
  • Develops and implements reasonable classroom rules of behavior and procedure in a fair manner.
  • Creates educational experiences that allow each student to develop personal-social adjustment, decision-making, and positive self-image.
  • Promotes and follows the adopted school district philosophy, policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Communicates concerns and ideas with colleagues, students, parents, and the community in a professional manner.
  • Assumes legal responsibility for the supervision of students on school property or during school-sponsored activities.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Assumes individual responsibilities assigned by the principal/supervisor related to committee work, student activities, or other planning assignments.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, legible, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
  • Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Requirements

  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • Experience in a specialized field related to special education is required.
