About the position

The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate (RA) to join the Battery Materials & Systems Group within the Energy and Environment Directorate. This position focuses on innovative battery research projects, emphasizing the development and characterization of energy materials and devices. The role involves applying scientific theories to tasks, working under minimal oversight, and contributing to the advancement of clean energy technologies.

Responsibilities

• Apply basic scientific theories to well-defined tasks with minimal oversight.
• Utilize conceptual knowledge of scientific or engineering theories, practices, and procedures within your specialization.
• Follow instructions on required tasks and complete them on time and within budget, working under the guidance of experienced staff.
• Communicate the importance of work within the team effectively.

Requirements

• PhD received within the past five years or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
• Solid training in chemistry, materials science, polymer science, or chemical engineering.
• Knowledge and experience with Li metal batteries, electrolytes, and Li-S batteries are preferred.
• Hands-on experience or demonstrated ability to work on materials synthesis, characterization, and coin/pouch cell assembly and evaluation.
• Ability to work independently and safely.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with advanced characterization tools for energy materials.
• Familiarity with battery testing methodologies.
