About the position

The Post Doctoral Fellow in Integrative Biology at Oklahoma State University will focus on investigating the evolution of defensive traits in male-male combat. This role aims to fill critical gaps in understanding how defensive capacities influence fighting success and the evolutionary arms-races between offensive and defensive traits. The position involves experimental manipulation and phylogenetic comparative methods to explore these dynamics.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate the evolution of weapons and shields used in male-male combat.
  • Conduct experimental manipulations to determine why some individuals are better defended than others.
  • Utilize phylogenetic comparative methods to evaluate the causes and consequences of evolving defensive structures.
  • Design and collect data for behavioral experiments.
  • Perform statistical analyses on collected data.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in biology, entomology, or a closely related field.
  • Excellent English writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Established record of productivity with at least one previous peer-reviewed publication.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with phylogenetic comparative methods.
  • Fieldwork experience.
  • Knowledge in entomology.

Benefits

  • $60,000 annual salary for 12 months.
  • Health insurance and other benefits.
