About the position

You will bridge the gap from target identification to medicine for patients in need by leveraging GSK's tools, technologies, libraries, samples, people, knowledge base, and training program. Your post-doctoral experience will be accompanied by tremendous support at GSK with the opportunity for daily collaborations with world-class scientists. GSK is committed to providing each post-doc with a mentor who will be focused on providing a comprehensive training program and is expected to nurture skills that will enable the post-doc to become an independent scientific investigator. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative and motivated team of scientists from GSK (Drug Product Development and Bioimaging) and ViiV to work on a three-year project that will allow for the advancement of mechanistic understanding of LAI drug product performance by contributing to the execution of in-vivo/ex-vivo studies and leveraging advanced characterization and bioimaging tools. The techniques that the successful candidate will exploit and learn include (but are not limited to) EM (Scanning, Transmission, Cryo, Focused Ion Beam), Laser Diffraction, MRI, immunofluorescence (IF) / immunohistochemistry (IHC), Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption-Ionization Spectroscopy (MALDI), and VivoQuant software.

Responsibilities

  • Stay up to date with necessary training and maintain compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for leading studies, coordinating sample analysis, data generation, data management and communication to project teams.
  • Collaborate with key opinion leaders, within GSK and externally, regarding highly technical information.
  • Operate imaging equipment to acquire in-vivo and/or ex-vivo images of tissues and injection sites.
  • Understand, interpret, and communicate complex scientific data.
  • Exhibit productivity in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary scientific environment.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in Material Science, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or relevant fields, completed within the past 3 years.
  • Experience in one or more of the following characterization techniques, e.g., Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), X-ray Microscopy-Computed Tomography (XRM-CT), Electron Microscopy (Scanning, Transmission, Cryo, Focused Ion Beam).
  • Experience with handling experimental animals and tissue processing (fixation/freezing).
  • Experience with characterization techniques of pharmaceutical suspensions and surface interactions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Learning agility to develop expertise on multiple imaging techniques including MRI, immunofluorescence and confocal imaging.
  • Knowledge in immunology, virology with focus on HIV.
  • Be a self-starter and have ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.
  • Have a track record of publishing in scientific journals.
  • Drive effective collaboration with good organizational and communication skills.
