About the position

The Department of Research & Evaluation (R&E) at Kaiser Permanente Southern California (KPSC) is seeking a Post Doctoral Research Fellow to enhance our health equity and implementation research initiatives aimed at improving the health and well-being of our diverse community. This position is primarily focused on building sustainable partnerships with KPSC health system leaders, front line clinicians, patients and families, R&E scientists, and various national, state, and community collaborators. The goal is to develop, implement, and rigorously evaluate scalable programs, practices, and innovations that address and eliminate persistent health disparities in Southern California's diverse communities. Key areas of focus include cardio-metabolic diseases, medication adherence, vaccinations, cancer care, maternal health, mental health, obesity management, and digital access. As a researcher within the R&E department, the incumbent will work under the supervision of a Research Scientist, engaging in well-defined research projects. Responsibilities include designing and directing research, preparing grant proposals and publications, consulting on data management and analysis strategies, and potentially performing subject assessments or chart reviews. The role also involves submitting abstracts and presenting findings at national scientific meetings, as well as participating in departmental meetings and projects. This position is a one-year renewable training opportunity, contingent upon funding and performance, and requires the ability to work within a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop well-defined research projects under supervision.
  • Prepare grant proposals and publications independently and collaboratively.
  • Consult and provide direction to programmer/analysts regarding data management and analysis strategies.
  • Perform subject assessments or chart reviews, or direct research support staff in these tasks.
  • Submit abstracts and present papers at national scientific meetings.
  • Seek consultation from research scientists for specific scientific and administrative issues.
  • Participate in R&E department meetings and projects as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Current or anticipated doctoral degree (Ph.D, Dr.PH, MD, Sc.D) in epidemiology, health services research, economics, or a related field, or a clinical doctoral degree plus a master's degree with formal research training.
  • Competence in advanced research methods, including statistical techniques and study design commonly used in epidemiologic and health services research.

Nice-to-haves

  • Independent research and peer-reviewed publications in health equity and social justice.
  • Knowledge of health equity theories and frameworks.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Track record of publication in peer-reviewed literature and grant-writing experience.
