About the position

The Department of Research & Evaluation (R&E) at Kaiser Permanente Southern California (KPSC) is seeking a Post Doctoral Research Fellow in Health Equity Implementation. This position plays a critical role in expanding the health equity and implementation research portfolio aimed at improving the health and well-being of diverse communities. The primary objective of this research program is to build sustainable partnerships with health system leaders, clinicians, patients, families, and community collaborators to develop, implement, and rigorously evaluate scalable programs and practices that address persistent health disparities. Key focus areas include cardio-metabolic diseases, medication adherence, vaccinations, cancer care, maternal health, mental health, obesity management, and digital access. As a researcher in the R&E department, the incumbent will work under the supervision of a Research Scientist, contributing to various projects. Responsibilities include designing and directing research, preparing grant proposals and publications, providing consultation on data management, and performing subject assessments or chart reviews. The role also involves submitting abstracts and presenting findings at national scientific meetings, participating in departmental meetings, and collaborating with other researchers in a collegial environment that emphasizes public domain research and adherence to high scientific standards. The position is primarily remote but requires residence in California, aligning with Kaiser Permanente's policies on authorized work locations.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, and directs well-defined research with supervision from a R&E Research Scientist.
  • Prepares grant proposals and publications independently and collaboratively.
  • Provides consultation and direction to programmer/analysts regarding data management and analysis strategies.
  • May perform subject assessments or chart reviews or provide direction to research support staff performing these tasks.
  • Submits abstracts to and presents papers at national scientific meetings.
  • Seeks consultation from research scientists for specific scientific and administrative issues.
  • Participates in R&E department meetings and projects as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Current or anticipated doctoral degree (Ph.D, Dr.PH, MD, Sc.D) in epidemiology, health services research, economics, or related field, or a clinical doctoral degree plus a master's degree with formal research training.
  • Competent in advanced research methods, including statistical techniques and study design commonly used in epidemiologic, behavioral, health services research, economics, or related fields.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Independent research and peer-reviewed publications in areas central to health equity and social justice.
  • Knowledge of health equity theories and frameworks.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish fluently.
  • Track record of publication in the peer-reviewed literature and grant-writing experience.
