About the position

The Physics Department at South Dakota Mines is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Scientist to join its Experimental Dark Matter group. This full-time position involves working on direct dark matter searches, specifically the LZ and SuperCDMS projects. The successful candidate will engage in data analysis, detector development, and research towards future dark matter experiments, contributing to a collaborative environment focused on advancing the understanding of particle physics and cosmology.

Responsibilities

  • Work on the analysis of the LZ dark matter search project.
  • Contribute to the construction, testing, and analysis of the SuperCDMS project.
  • Engage in research and development for future dark matter experiments.
  • Prototype designs to mitigate backgrounds due to radon daughters.

Requirements

  • PhD in particle astrophysics, high-energy physics, nuclear physics, or a related field.
  • Experience with low-noise electronics and cryogenic systems.
  • Knowledge of detector development and radiation detection techniques.
  • Familiarity with low-background techniques, data acquisition, and data analysis.
