About The Position

The University of California, Riverside is offering two postdoctoral positions in Heterogeneous Catalysis within the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering. The role focuses on research in thermal catalysis, environmental applications, and sustainable chemical transformations, supervised by Dr. Fudong Liu. The positions are expected to last from January 2025 to September 2027, with a strong emphasis on hands-on research and collaboration in advanced catalysis techniques.

Requirements

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Strong background in heterogeneous catalysis research.
  • Hands-on experience in thermal catalysis research, particularly at gas-solid interfaces.
  • Demonstrated experience in the synthesis and characterization of metal, metal oxide, and zeolite catalysts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with nanomaterial synthesis and single atom/cluster catalysis.
  • Familiarity with physisorption, chemisorption, and temperature-programmed techniques.
  • Experience with Mass Spec, FTIR, GC, and GC/MS instruments.
  • Knowledge of microscopy and spectroscopy techniques such as TEM, SEM, and XPS.
  • Experience in environmental pollutant control and clean energy source conversion.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct heterogeneous catalyst synthesis and experimental design.
  • Perform catalyst aging and reactor testing.
  • Characterize catalysts using advanced techniques, preferably synchrotron-based X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS).
  • Study reaction mechanisms related to heterogeneous catalysis.
  • Collaborate with a research team on various catalysis projects.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary starting from $65,000 per year.
  • Opportunity to work in a collaborative research environment.
  • Access to advanced instrumentation and resources for research.
