About the position

The Postdoctoral Appointee in Experimental Hadronic Physics at Argonne National Laboratory will engage in research projects related to physics and detector technology at Jefferson Lab and the Electron-Ion Collider. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to significant scientific programs while allowing some flexibility for personal research interests. The position is designed for candidates with a background in experimental nuclear or high-energy physics, and it is a full-time role for up to three years.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research in experimental hadronic physics, focusing on projects at Jefferson Lab and the Electron-Ion Collider.
  • Participate in the scientific program with CLAS12, Hall C, and PRad-II at Jefferson Lab.
  • Develop a polarized light ion source for the Electron-Ion Collider.
  • Design and contribute to the ePIC Barrel Imaging Calorimeter.
  • Engage in experimental data analysis related to hadronic physics and detector technology.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in experimental nuclear or particle physics with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent.
  • Experience in experimental data analysis related to hadronic physics, polarized targets or beams, silicon sensors, calorimetry, detector simulations, or PMTs or SiPMs.
  • Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with superconducting nanowire detectors and pixelized 3D-printed MCP-PMTs.
  • Familiarity with innovative measurement techniques.
