About the position

The Nuclear Science and Engineering Division at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral appointee to join the Nuclear Applications and Economics group. This role focuses on conducting advanced research in nuclear economics, energy market modeling, and reactor design, contributing to the development of innovative solutions in the field of nuclear engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Perform economics analyses of nuclear reactors and facilities.
  • Conduct energy market modeling and energy transition analyses.
  • Contribute to the design and analysis of advanced nuclear reactors such as SFRs, MSRs, HTGRs, and Micro-reactors and their associated fuel cycles.
  • Develop computational strategies to improve the modeling and simulation of nuclear and energy market economics analyses.
  • Produce papers and reports describing results of development work, analyses, and investigations.

Requirements

  • PhD in nuclear engineering, physics, or a related field with zero to five years of employment experience.
  • Experience in economics applied to energy market systems modeling.
  • Knowledge in costing analyses of nuclear facilities.
  • Knowledge of nuclear engineering principles, theories, and practices for the design and analysis of reactor systems.
  • Research experience in one or more specialized areas of nuclear science and engineering.
  • Experience in computer programming and scripting.
  • Skill in the conception, design, and evaluation of innovative approaches and solutions to quantitative problems.
  • Skills in the use of computers and in the analysis of computational results, clear and effective documentation and communication of results, and interaction with co-workers and support personnel.
  • Experience with writing funding proposals for innovative ideas.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
