About the position

The Postdoctoral Associate position in the Media Lab-Camera Culture Group offers an exciting opportunity to join a highly collaborative team of faculty and researchers dedicated to advancing the fields of computational vision and machine learning. This role focuses on a variety of cutting-edge areas including 3D imaging, Neural Radiance Fields (NERF), high-level vision, supervised learning, reinforcement learning, health imaging, and the development of novel computational sensors. The successful candidate will engage in independent research that spans multiple domains such as computer vision, machine learning, medical imaging, LiDAR, non-line-of-sight imaging, and various 3D imaging modalities, including tomography. In this role, the Postdoctoral Associate will be expected to publish, present, and disseminate their research findings to the broader computer vision community. Collaboration is key, as the candidate will work alongside professors from other institutions, contributing to their research initiatives. Additionally, the role involves engaging with private industry and government research sponsors to apply for research grants, helping to identify promising projects, and mentoring graduate students. The Postdoctoral Associate will play a crucial role in supplementing the existing team of researchers, driving forward innovative research in the field. This position is a one-year appointment, with the possibility of extension based on funding availability and the progress of the research undertaken.

Responsibilities

  • Perform independent research in computer vision and machine learning.
  • Publish, present, and disseminate research findings to the computer vision communities.
  • Collaborate with professors from other institutions on their research projects.
  • Work with private, industry, and government research sponsors to apply for research grants.
  • Help identify and develop new research projects.
  • Mentor graduate students in their research activities.
  • Supplement a team of researchers to advance ongoing research initiatives.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in computer vision or a closely related field.
  • Experience with programming in MATLAB or Python.
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving and time management.
  • Ability to incubate and envision new, innovative research projects and manage their implementation with graduate students.

Nice-to-haves

  • Background in computational algorithms such as signal processing, machine learning, and optimization.
  • Experience with unique sensors like stereo, SPAD, and time of flight.
  • Interest in current research activities of the Camera Culture group.
