About the position
The Postdoctoral Fellow in Human-Centered Computing at Berea College is a mentored research position focused on creating digital mementos to support family storytelling and collective remembering. The role involves collaboration with undergraduate student researchers and faculty, emphasizing the design and deployment of technologies for community engagement and intergenerational storytelling. The fellow will also assist in teaching and participate in faculty development programming, contributing to the college's mission of quality undergraduate education.
Responsibilities
- Design and deploy technologies for family remembering and intergenerational storytelling in the community.
- Mentor undergraduate research students in designing research studies involving tangible and embedded interactive devices.
- Build relationships with community members to implement designed technologies.
- Collaborate with faculty and undergraduate researchers to carry out research activities and promote accomplishments through publications and public activities.
- Assist in teaching one Computer Science class each year.
- Participate in faculty development programming and support student supervision.
Requirements
- PhD or terminal degree in HCI, interactive digital media, industrial design, or related fields.
- Interdisciplinary interests and experience in computing and design.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor students.
- Experience in interactive system design and/or research.
