The Laboratory for the Modeling of Biological and Sociotechnical Systems (MOBS Lab) at Northeastern University is seeking to hire research scientists at various levels, including Postdoctoral Research Associate, Associate Research Scientist, Senior Research Scientist, and Principal Research Scientist. This opportunity is part of a vibrant interdisciplinary community led by Professor Alessandro Vespignani, focusing on the development of innovative mathematical models and computational tools to understand and anticipate large-scale complex networks and systems, particularly in the context of epidemic modeling. Successful candidates will join the Network Science Institute and will be expected to engage actively with the community, which includes opportunities for scientific collaborations, grant proposals, and graduate student training. The MOBS Lab's research aims to construct, calibrate, and validate disease-specific models that contribute to actionable forecasts and scenario analyses, especially during public health emergencies. Researchers will also develop behavioral data collection tools and provide methodological input for characterizing infectious diseases. The positions are designed to foster research independence, particularly for Senior and Principal Research Scientists, who will be expected to develop independent projects and secure funding over time. The role includes responsibilities such as initiating and completing research projects, integrating epidemiological and behavioral data into models, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and preparing research papers and grant proposals.
