About the position

The Neurocognitive and Behavioral Development Laboratory at the University of Florida is seeking a highly motivated and goal-oriented applicant for a postdoctoral associate position. This role will involve leading two NIH-funded research projects that focus on aging and dementia risk in adults with autism spectrum disorder. The research is conducted through the Department of Applied Physiology and Kinesiology in collaboration with several esteemed institutions, including the UF Center for Autism and Related Disabilities, the UF Health Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment, and the UF Clinical and Translational Science Institute's Human Imaging Core, as well as the Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases. This position offers diverse research and clinical training opportunities, making it an excellent fit for candidates looking to advance their careers in this critical area of study. The successful candidate will be expected to publish scientific results in peer-reviewed journals, aiming for 2-3 publications per year. Additionally, the postdoctoral associate will support the Principal Investigator (PI) in grant writing and submission processes. Supervisory responsibilities will include overseeing research activities within the lab, particularly guiding graduate students in human data acquisition, data quality control, data analysis, result interpretation, presentations, and manuscript preparations. Other responsibilities will encompass preparing and developing new research studies, creating laboratory manuals, and actively participating in lab and research meetings. This position is designed for a duration of 24 months, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability.

Responsibilities

  • Publish scientific results in peer-reviewed journals (2-3 publications per year)
  • Support the PI in grant writing and submission
  • Supervise research activities within the lab for graduate students regarding human data acquisition, data quality control, data analysis, result interpretation/presentations, and manuscript preparations
  • Prepare and develop new research studies
  • Develop laboratory manuals
  • Participate in lab/research meetings

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Psychology, Neuroscience, Kinesiology, Health Science, or related fields
  • Experience in human biomechanics (EMG, Motion capture, Kinetics) or human brain imaging (MRI, DTI)
  • Demonstrated ability to progress towards an NIH K-award applicant within the first 12 months of position
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly motivated and able to work well in a team setting

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with computer programming (MATLAB or Python)
