About The Position
The Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Thermal Energy Storage Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in energy conversion systems. This role is integral to supporting the U.S. Department of Energy's Building Technology Office and Geothermal Technology Office by developing advanced building equipment aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and integrating equipment with the grid. The successful candidate will engage in a variety of complex research assignments that encompass working fluids and thermodynamic cycles for advanced vapor compression refrigeration systems, integrated heat pump systems, geothermal heat pumps, thermal energy storage materials, and advanced heat exchanger design. In this position, the associate will be responsible for developing experimental setups, conducting experimental campaigns, performing thermodynamic analyses, and system modeling. The role also involves analyzing results, preparing technical documents, and publishing peer-reviewed research. The candidate will have the opportunity to present and defend their work to project sponsors and collaborate with researchers from universities, national laboratories, and private industry.
