About the position

The University of Montana is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct research on climate change vulnerability and climate refugia for amphibians across the U.S. National Park System. The role involves completing a climate change vulnerability analysis and synthesizing data from amphibian monitoring programs to evaluate responses to climate variables. The position is funded for two years with the possibility of extension based on performance.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a climate change vulnerability analysis (CCVA) and mapping of climate refugia for amphibians on NPS lands in the continental U.S.
  • Synthesize data from amphibian monitoring programs in national parks to evaluate responses to climate covariates.
  • Provide guidelines on designing more efficient monitoring programs for amphibians.
  • Conduct scientific literature reviews and manage databases and data sets.
  • Analyze complex, quantitative ecological data using statistical programming languages.
  • Write progress reports for funding agencies and present research results to broad audiences.

Requirements

  • PhD in wildlife biology, ecology, biology, or a similar field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the scientific process and its application to ecological research.
  • Proven ability to conduct scientific literature reviews and manage databases.
  • Practical statistical analysis experience with R, R Markdown, Python, and/or GitHub.
  • Experience in writing progress reports for funding agencies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Expertise in GIS and processing/analysis of remotely sensed data.
  • Experience with large spatial datasets and multi-species occupancy modeling using R.
  • Strong record of research with experience leading peer-reviewed publications.
  • Ability to travel for up to 7 days consecutively as needed.
